Linear keypad and intercom repair in Tampa typically runs $225 to $485 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad face, the intercom board, or the full entry station. Most jobs are done in a single visit since we stock the common Linear parts on the truck. If your keypad works intermittently or the intercom audio went from clear to crackling overnight, you’re in the right place.
The way it usually surfaces is unglamorous: a delivery driver calls from the street because the call button does nothing, or you walk out to the gate and the keypad beeps but never cycles the gate. Sometimes the keys work fine and the speaker sounds like it’s underwater. That’s a failed intercom board, and it won’t fix itself. Here’s exactly what to expect.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Linear’s entry keypads and intercoms span a few generations, and the part match matters more than most homeowners realize. We regularly work on the AK-11 digital keypad, the AP-3 and AP-4 keypads, the AE-1000 and AE-2000 telephone entry and intercom systems, and the newer LP series panels. Each generation uses different mounting footprints and wiring harnesses. An AK-11 keypad will not drop into an AP-4 housing without re-drilling and re-wiring, and an AE-1000 intercom board is not interchangeable with an AE-2000 board even though the enclosures look nearly identical from the outside.
To identify what you have, open the keypad or intercom housing and look for the model label on the back of the faceplate or on the circuit board itself. Linear prints the model and revision there. Revision matters: AE-1000 boards went through several revisions with different connector placements, and matching the revision avoids a return trip. For OEM versus aftermarket, we’ll tell you straight: Linear OEM boards carry the longest service life and plug in cleanly, and that’s what we install unless your enclosure is out of production. For an older Linear enclosure that’s no longer made, a quality aftermarket keypad from a brand we’ve bench-tested keeps you from replacing the whole pedestal. We’ll show you both options and the price difference before you commit.

Signs Your Linear Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
Some failures announce themselves. Others creep in. Here’s what Tampa homeowners see most often:
- The keypad works, but only sometimes. This is almost always moisture intrusion at the faceplate gasket or cracked key buttons. Tampa’s humidity and afternoon thunderstorms accelerate it. The contacts corrode, and the keypad registers a press only when the humidity drops. Replacing the faceplate and sealing the housing resolves it.
- The intercom buzzes or hums constantly, even when nobody pressed the call button. That’s a failing capacitor or ground fault on the intercom board. Left alone, it can take the gate operator’s control board with it because the noise is riding the same low-voltage line.
- You can hear the visitor, but the visitor can’t hear you. The speaker or the audio amplifier circuit on the intercom board has failed. On Linear AE-series units, the amp chip is soldered to the board, so the repair is a board swap, not a speaker replacement.
- The keypad beeps when you enter the code, but the gate doesn’t open. The keypad itself may be fine. This points to a bad relay on the keypad’s control board or a wiring break between the keypad and the gate operator. We test the relay with a meter before condemning the keypad. About a third of these calls end up being a wiring issue, not a keypad issue.
- The keypad face is physically cracked or the buttons are worn smooth. Once the outer membrane is compromised, water gets in and the keypad fails within a season. Tampa sun also bakes the silicone buttons, and once they harden and crack, a new faceplate is the only fix.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the breakdown for Tampa, written so you know the number before we ever pull into your driveway:
- Keypad faceplate replacement: $225 to $310 installed. This covers a new Linear or tested-aftermarket faceplate, gasket, and sealing the housing against Tampa’s rain and humidity.
- Intercom board replacement: $260 to $385 installed. This includes the board, bench-testing the new part before install, and verifying the audio both directions.
- Full entry station replacement (keypad, intercom, housing): $385 to $485 installed when the existing pedestal can be reused. If the pedestal is rotted or the conduit is corroded, we’ll quote that separately before any work starts.
Every price above is quoted and agreed before we touch a screw. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it’s not a suggestion. You get a written price, a written guarantee on the repair for a full year, and a free second visit if anything we touched fails inside that window. It’s Lonnie Burke’s rule on every job in Tampa, and his crew knows he checks.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely check yourself, and then there’s everything else. Safely check the obvious: is the keypad getting power (does it beep at all), and is the faceplate cracked or the buttons visibly damaged. That tells you whether you’re chasing a dead component or a bad connection, and it helps us show up with the right part the first time.
Beyond that, this is low-voltage wiring and board-level work. Linear keypads and intercoms tie into the gate operator’s control board, and mis-wiring a keypad can fry the very board that opens your gate. A gate operator board replacement runs several hundred dollars more than a keypad call. If the keypad is intermittent, the wiring is old, or the intercom audio is distorted, call us at (850) 533-8293. We’ll diagnose the whole chain correctly and fix the part that’s actually failed, not the part that’s easiest to swap.
FAQs
A Linear keypad in Tampa typically lasts 6 to 10 years before moisture or sun damage takes the faceplate, and intercom boards generally fail somewhere in the 8 to 12 year range depending on how exposed the housing is to afternoon thunderstorms and salt air. Keypads on west-facing gates with no shade fail sooner because the silicone buttons bake in the afternoon sun. Sealed gaskets and replacement faceplates extend the service life meaningfully. For an exact quote on your setup, call (850) 533-8293.
Often the housing and wiring can be saved, and we repair what’s repairable. Cracked faceplates and failed intercom boards are generally replaced because Linear doesn’t sell the sub-components separately, but we can keep your existing pedestal and enclosure in most cases. The repair is a board or face swap, not a full teardown. Call (850) 533-8293 and we’ll identify the part and the path before you spend a dollar.
Most Linear keypad and intercom repairs are done in a single visit that takes 45 to 90 minutes. We bench-test the new board or keypad before we install it, then verify the full sequence: keypad code, relay trigger, gate cycle, and intercom audio both directions. There’s no callback to “finish the job.” If you’re in Tampa and need it done, call (850) 533-8293 for a free estimate and a written price.
Yes. Our trucks carry the most common Linear keypad faceplates, AP-3 and AP-4 keypads, and AE-1000 and AE-2000 intercom boards. We also keep tested aftermarket equivalents for enclosures Linear no longer supports. If your exact revision isn’t on the shelf, we’ll tell you before the visit and get it ordered. We also carry LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls parts for multi-brand properties. Call (850) 533-8293 for a straight answer on what’s in stock today.
