DoorKing welding and fabrication work in Tampa typically runs $225 – $480 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked gate frame, reinforcing a hinge mount, or fabricating a replacement bracket for a DoorKing operator. Most jobs are completed same-day because we stock raw steel stock, plate, and the common DoorKing mounting patterns on the truck. The way owners usually discover this problem: the gate starts sagging, makes a grinding sound near the post, or the operator struggles to move the leaf even though the motor still runs.
Welding failures on DoorKing setups in Tampa don’t happen in a vacuum. Salt air from the bay, daily humidity, and the weight of a residential slide or swing gate put constant stress on the welds that hold the hinge brackets, the operator mount, and the gate frame itself. When one of those welds cracks, the whole system starts working against itself – the motor pushes, the gate flexes, and the crack widens. Lonnie Burke and our crew see this pattern regularly out in Westchase, Carrollwood, and South Tampa, where older DoorKing installations from the mid-2000s are now hitting the point where original welds fatigue.
Carver Gate Repair Tampa is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with DoorKing, but we’ve worked on their equipment for years and fabricate repair parts that match or exceed the original specs.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing’s residential and light-commercial lineup shares a lot of mounting geometry, which means fabrication work follows predictable patterns. The swing operators we work on most are the 6002, 6100, 6300, and 9024 series, along with the older 9000-series swing arms that are still running in many Tampa neighborhoods. Slide operators include the 1150, 1601, and 6300 slide configurations. The welding and fabrication work we do covers the gate leaf itself, hinge plates, operator mounting brackets, and the post reinforcement plates DoorKing operators depend on for a solid anchor.
Identifying the correct part is straightforward if you know what to look for. DoorKing stamps model and serial numbers on the operator housing, typically near the bottom edge or the inside of the cover. The gate frame measurements matter just as much – we need the post-to-post width, the leaf height, and the material (galvanized steel, aluminum, or ornamental iron), because welding approach and filler material change by metal type. For OEM brackets and mounting kits, DoorKing’s part numbers start with a three- or four-digit prefix. For aftermarket fabrication, we use the operator’s mounting pattern as the reference, which means we can build a bracket that fits without waiting on a shipped OEM part.
One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: DoorKing swing operators made after 2012 use a slightly narrower mounting bolt pattern on the operator base than the pre-2012 models. If you order a pre-2012 bracket for a newer operator, the holes won’t line up. We keep both patterns on the truck and verify against the serial number before cutting any steel.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. This almost always means the hinge welds or the hinge plates themselves are fatiguing. The gate’s weight, multiplied over thousands of open-close cycles, works the weld until it micro-cracks. You’ll see the gap at the bottom of the latch side shrink while the top gap widens.
- The operator moves, but the gate barely does. If the motor spins and the gate shudders or stalls, the operator mount may have broken loose from its base plate. The operator torques against the mount every cycle, and a failed weld here means the motor is pushing against air instead of the gate.
- You hear a grinding or popping sound near the hinge post. A popping sound as the gate moves is the welded hinge binding against a cracked weld or a bent hinge barrel. Grinding usually means metal-on-metal contact where the weld has opened enough for the two surfaces to rub.
- Visible rust bleeding through paint at the weld joints. In Tampa’s humidity, rust starts at the weld bead long before you see it anywhere else. Rust staining around a weld joint means the protective coating has failed and the weld is oxidizing from the outside in, which weakens the joint further.
- The gate slams or bounces at the close position. A broken weld on the stop plate or the receiver post lets the gate travel past its intended stopping point. You’ll hear a metal slap when the gate closes, and each impact stresses the remaining welds.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed pricing for DoorKing welding and fabrication in Tampa breaks down like this:
- Single weld repair (hinge, bracket, or frame crack): $225 – $325
- Hinge plate replacement, both sides: $280 – $400
- Operator mounting bracket fabrication and install: $250 – $420
- Gate frame reinforcement (multiple weld points): $350 – $480
- Post reinforcement plate fabrication and install: $300 – $450
The spread depends on the gate’s size and material, how much fabrication is required versus a straight weld repair, and whether we need to remove the gate leaf to work on it properly. Every job gets a written price before we strike an arc – no number changes after we start. That price covers the fabrication or repair work, the welding consumables, surface prep, and a protective coating on the repaired area. Every repair is covered by our written guarantee for a full year from the date of service.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check the obvious: grab the gate and try to lift or wiggle it while watching the hinge and operator mounts. If you see movement at a weld joint, the weld is compromised. You can also inspect the welds visually for cracks, rust blooms, or gaps that weren’t there when the gate was installed. Mark anything you find with tape or a marker so you can point it out when you call.
What you shouldn’t do is attempt the welding yourself unless you have a welder, know how to set it for the gate’s material, and understand how to keep the gate plumb while the new weld cools. A gate that’s welded out of square will bind, stress the DoorKing operator, and fail again. Improper welds on galvanized steel also release zinc fumes that will make you sick. If you’re not set up for this work, call us at (850) 533-8293 – we’ll bring the truck, the steel, and the right filler for the job.
FAQs
A properly prepared and coated weld on a DoorKing gate in Tampa should last 8 – 12 years before showing signs of fatigue, with the coating touched up every few years. Uncoated or poorly prepared welds in humid bay air can start rusting within 18 months, which is why we prep and coat every repair before we leave. Call (850) 533-8293 and we’ll tell you exactly what your gate needs.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. A clean crack in a low-stress area can be ground out and re-welded. A crack in a hinge barrel, a mount that’s torn the base metal, or a weld that’s failed twice is better served by fabricating a new part. We’ll tell you which one your gate needs and why, with a written price before anything gets cut.
Most single-point weld repairs and bracket fabrications run 60 – 90 minutes on site, with the gate back in operation the same day. Larger reinforcement jobs or removing the gate leaf for a bench repair can take 2 – 3 hours. Call (850) 533-8293 for a specific time estimate on your gate.
We stock common DoorKing mounting patterns, steel plate, and raw stock on the truck, so we can fabricate most brackets and hinge plates on site without waiting on a shipped part. For proprietary DoorKing components that can’t be fabricated, we source OEM parts and install them when they arrive. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls on the truck for mixed-system properties.
