BFT keypad and intercom repair in Tampa typically runs $220 to $480 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a keypad face, a control board, or the entire entry station. Most BFT keypad and intercom failures we see are repairable same-day from parts kept on the truck, and the work is covered by our written one-year guarantee. In Tampa, owners usually discover the problem when a code stops working, the intercom speaker crackles or goes silent, or the gate simply won’t respond from the entry pad even though a remote still opens it.
What makes BFT equipment different is that the keypad, intercom, and control board are often wired as one integrated entry station. A failing intercom isn’t always just a bad speaker. It can be a corroded connection pulling voltage away from the keypad. That’s why we diagnose the whole station, not just the visible symptom. Lonnie Burke has been running our crew through Tampa neighborhoods including Westchase, Carrollwood, and South Tampa long enough to know which BFT components fail first in this humidity.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
We service BFT keypads and intercom stations across the Deimos, Thalia, and Elba series, along with the Rigel and Mitto entry panels. The compatibility gotcha with BFT is that the keypad and intercom module share a single bus connection to the control board, so a part from one series won’t always talk to a board from another. Before we order or install anything, we verify the model label on the underside of the entry station and match it to the board’s firmware revision.
OEM BFT parts are our default recommendation for anything that carries signal: keypad membranes, intercom audio boards, and the bus wiring harnesses. For mechanical parts like the faceplate gasket or the mounting backplate, a quality aftermarket equivalent does the job for less money and we’ll tell you when that’s the case. We also stock compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, so if your entry pad turns out to be paired with a different operator, we can still get it sorted on the same visit.
One more thing worth knowing: BFT’s outdoor entry stations are IP-rated, but the rating assumes a clean install with the gasket seated properly. In Tampa’s wet season, we regularly open stations that were installed by someone who didn’t seat the gasket, or who drilled a low drain hole that let ants build a nest across the keypad contacts. That’s the kind of detail that separates a repair that lasts from one you’ll be calling about again in six months.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Is Failing
- Keypad accepts only some codes, or none. This usually means the membrane contacts are worn or moisture has reached the circuit film. If the board still responds to a remote, the keypad itself is the likely culprit.
- Intercom audio is crackling, humming, or completely dead. A noisy speaker can be a failing audio board, but it can also be a corroded wire terminal where the intercom ties into the station. We test the speaker first, then the board, then the wiring.
- Gate opens intermittently from the keypad. In Tampa, this symptom often traces back to heat expansion and contraction loosening a terminal block inside the station. It works in the morning, fails by mid-afternoon.
- You press a button and hear a faint beep, but nothing happens at the gate. The station is receiving input but the bus signal isn’t reaching the control board. We check the bus wire, the station’s output module, and the board’s input terminal.
- Keypad backlight flickers or dims. A dying backlight inverter or failing capacitor on the power supply section is a sign the station is working harder than it should. Left alone, it can take the keypad processor down with it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Tampa, here’s what BFT keypad and intercom work typically runs:
- Keypad membrane or faceplate replacement: $220 to $310 installed
- Intercom audio board replacement: $260 to $380 installed
- Full entry station replacement (keypad plus intercom): $380 to $480 installed
- Diagnostic service call (applied toward the repair): $89 to $129
Every quote is written, and it’s agreed before any work starts. The price you see is the price you pay. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s the same whether we’re replacing a single membrane or rewiring a complete entry station. The labor covers removal, new part installation, wiring verification, and testing the station against the gate operator. The part warranty from BFT is matched by our own written guarantee on the repair, good for a full year. If it fails inside that year, the second visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Confirm that the gate opens with a remote so you know the operator itself is fine. Look at the keypad face for visible cracks or moisture fog under the membrane. Check the breaker that feeds the gate operator. Beyond that, opening a BFT entry station means working with 24-volt control wiring and a bus that’s easy to damage if you probe it wrong. We’ve had more than one Tampa homeowner turn a $220 keypad pad replacement into a $400 board repair by shorting the wrong two terminals.
If you’d rather skip the guesswork, call (850) 533-8293. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts, and the technician who shows up will be uniformed and background-checked. Show up, do the job right, leave the site cleaner than you found it. That’s how we run every call, including the ones out in Westchase where the older BFT stations are reaching the end of their service life.
FAQs
A properly installed BFT entry station typically lasts 7 to 10 years in Tampa’s climate, though the keypad membrane often needs replacement around year 5 because of UV exposure and humidity. Intercom audio boards tend to fail before the keypad processors.
It depends on what’s failed. Keypad membranes and faceplates are replaceable, and intercom boards can often be rebuilt if the damage is limited to a capacitor or audio chip. If the station’s bus module is gone, a full replacement is usually the better long-term call. We’ll tell you which path makes sense before any money changes hands.
Most BFT keypad and intercom repairs are completed in 90 minutes to 2 hours. If we’re replacing the full entry station and re-terminating the bus wiring, plan for up to 3 hours. We give you an arrival window when you book.
We stock the most common BFT keypad membranes, intercom audio boards, and station gaskets on our Tampa trucks, covering most Deimos, Thalia, and Elba series repairs same-day. Uncommon firmware-specific boards may take 2 to 4 business days to source. Call (850) 533-8293 and we’ll check our current inventory for your model.
If your BFT keypad or intercom isn’t working the way it should, call (850) 533-8293 for a free estimate. We’re Carver Gate Repair Tampa, independent of BFT, and we’ve been keeping Tampa gates and entry stations running since the Garrison Standard took hold in 2008.
